Sandy Simpson's
North Sea Cycle Route (Part c)

Welcome

The third leg of the North Sea Cycle Route (NSCR) has now finished, plus the extra trip with other members of the family through to Copenhagen.

Last diary report is posted on it's own rather than in the monthly ones. Also the many congratulation messages have there own posting. Photos are where you expect to find them, and Sandy has sent in some new ones.

INTRO: Gilly and I are doing it from Hoek van Holland to Esbjerg and then Jo, Ian and their two children Evie and Ewan will join us and we will then cycle across Denmark to Copenhagan. I have attached our planned programme. We depart on the 23:45 ferry from Harwich to Hoek on 10th May.

Programme

Leg 1 Hoek of Holland to Esbjerg:  1450kms @ 50kms per day = 30 days. We wish to visit some of the islands off northern Germany and the east coast of Jutland and spend a day exploring Hamburg, we will therefore be allowing 39 days for this leg. Without rest etc. we would need to average 38km per day.

Leg 2 Esbjerg to Copenhagen:  325km @ 40km per day = 8 days + 1 rest day

Timings

Day -1  May 10th Drive to Debenham - park. Cycle to Shotley (40km). 17:00 (last) ferry to Harwich. 23:30 ferry to Hoek (Stena)
Day 0  May 11th 07:45 Ferry arrives Hoek of Holland. Start cycling leg
Day 39  June 19th Arrive Esbjerg

For those wishing to join us on the leg to Copenhagen we will adjust our journey to meet the DFDS Seaways ferry from Harwich which arrives Esbjerg at 13:00 on June 20th. We have planned this leg at a slightly slower pace to allow for anyone towing children in buggies.

We are cycling this leg in support of Martin's Boma appeal - his website is http://martinsbomaappeal.webs.com/. Please feel free to peruse this site, and maybe sponsor us!

HINT: For those of you who don't realise this, many computers keep a cache of web pages, which means that you may well need to do a "Reload" command from whatever internet viewing program you are using, if you want to be sure of seeing the lastest details. If you think you might not be seeing the very latest info, hit "Reload" while viewing the page in question.
