include your name and where you are from, in

Great to speak to
you on Thursday Tim - shames
the ringing back didn't work.
Sounds like the hospitality is
amazing - what kind people they
all are - especially to three
hairy men who haven't had a
shower in weeks. All is
well here though very cold -
snow is forecast for much of
the country tonight and
tomorrow even in
Cornwall. Have just
dropped Hamish into school for
an all day rehearsal of Grease
- Phoebe is in Newquay so am
here sorting out the
house. Its too cold to go
and saw wood - Pete keeps
saying I should use a
chainsaw! Had a lovely
dinner at Bedruthan Steps Hotel
on Friday night with the entire
stafff of Treviglas -
celebrating an outstanding
rating from Ofsted. A
busy week ahead, meetings,
Garden Society, singing, Grease
etc oh and work. You seem
to be making fast progress on
the little red line - am
looking forward to the next
photos. We had an
explorer from the North Pole,
Baffinf Island etc come into
Mawgan school and most children
kept asking about the penguins
even though he kept saying they
were in the South Pole so have
told class teacher about your
website where will be able to
see penguins! Am visiting
your pa in hospital today and
meeting Mum and Wendy
there. All went well
though he was still sleepy
yesterday (Sat) Saw my
parents yesterday and Dad was
asking after you and your
progress. Love to you all

Sounds as tho' more of your
time is spent eating and
drinking than kayaking. What
hospitality. I am so envious of
you seeing all this wildlife,
sounds awesome. How can I
manage to see it without doing
all the kayaking? Have had a
good but varied week away-hotel
at Mullion for S of A Christmas
dinner was great, as befits our
status your Dad and I had the
bestest suite of rooms with
brilliant views of the Lizard
coast. Lovely meal, great
company with lots of
laughs-poor Little Sam was ill
so couldn't eat-his food didn't
go to waste tho'. Was good to
briefly catch up with Footie
over a cuppa during our trip
north to Hereford-Timmy, we
shall see you hopefully on
April 1st as I am about to book
into your lovely home when we
go to Rick Steins, if Footie
will have us. The funeral went
well, the Crematorium was
packed with family/ friends/
colleagues of William's, many
of whom came back to the house
afterwards-'caravan lady' of
cup-cake fame excelled herself
putting on an amazing spread
and it was just so nice meeting
all these people who
represented William's life.
Then to Wales and a good time
with Helen, once we had sorted
the sleeping arrangements
out-Lily slept in our room and
was so good-Helen couldn't
believe it when she slept
through to 8am (Max not quite
so obliging). At least we had
one good day of weather and
experienced some of the
brilliant beaches round Tenby
way-Lily got duly wet when she
paddled, with boots full of
water. She was quite happy!
This is an amazing area with
loads of exploring to do-bike
and on foot, so we shall go
back. Last time I was in Tenby,
47 years ago, I fell madly in
love for the first time-but it
wasn't Sandy! Hopefully
this w/e Sue is enjoying the
spa etc at Clowance as she is
joining Jo and Ian for a break
near St Ives. luv Mumsie xxx

Chris/Fellas, Good to see
your progress, keep up the good
work. I see you are near
New Island, but it looks as
though you are going to miss it
out - no shortcuts,we're
watching, or was it that Chris
is navigating! Happy
Paddling. [The

Hi guys! Just to
say thanks for the postcard.
Rather a lot of birds of prey
on the Islands aren't there?
The local populace are a
cracking bunch if your tales of
hospitality are anything to go
by. When you said you were
getting replenishments at
strategic points around the
trip, I didn't quite imagine
the scenarios described. You
deserve a tide race or two just
to make up for it! Ha! Well,
glad everyone is well and the
"expedition" is cracking on in
good spirits. Take good care
people. [Colin {Ed}] |

Dearest husband, thanks so
much for your postcard and
letter! Both arrived on
fri last week. Glad to
see your beard is still looking
healthy on the photos - I want
you to make sure you keep it
until you get home: i want to
have a good old laugh at it!
And congratulations indeed, you
old sea-dog - you have caught
your first fish! Did you
eat it in ray mears
style? Keep going my
prince, don’t let those ‘jonny
rooks’ peck out your eyes while
you’re sleeping. Good
luck xxxx [Sue Simpson]

Uncle Richard, I think you
are mad sailing around the
Forclad Island I would never do
that . Recantly at school me,
Isobel and Theo had our picture
taken with the F.A cup and we
are on the internet now for the
world to see if they know the
username and password , which
we do as we have a letter to
tell us the username and
password . It has been snowing
an awful lot Isobel, me and
Theo made four snowmen and one
snowdog but the snow is melting
and they are disappearing but
we are ment to get more snow
over the weekend. Our biggest
snowman has olives for the eyes
and a carott for the nose we
also put ear muffs on it to
keep it warm, not so warm that
it melts. It is only about 30
cm tall .Thank for the money
you gave me at christmas, love

Its
snowing - all were sent home early
on Monday - all schools closed
today not just in the South West
but nationwide it seems.
Debbie and I walked up to the
windmills this morning (she had
never been) after a Hamish pancake
breakfast. Lovely white
panorama and morning sun. Its
freezing now tonight and I
anticpate school will be closed
again tomorrow and then there's a
lot more snow forecast for Thursday
Friday so watch the news (ha ha).
Unfortunately this means no Grease
- I wonder if they will just shift
it all to next week - I hope
so. Have been busy today
painting and sawing more logs - the
woodshed is getting a bit empty -
where's your husband when you need
him eh. Had a surprise at 2
am - the upstairs smoke al;arm was
sounding - dashed downstairs to
find the stoked up woodburner had
opened a door ( a log must have
shifted) and the smoke set off the
alarm. Worryingly neither
teenager was woken by it and its
right outside their bedroom doors.
Tonight we'll let the fire die down
before bed. thank you Ritchie
its one of yours. Your
colleagues in Truro were on the
local news tonight apparently they
are helping out the local nurses by
taking them to work in their four
wheel drives while the weather is
icy - such kind hearted people.
Great to see the latest photos will
show the children at
school. Tim your
Dad is still doing well but because
of the weather Mum and Wendy have
been unable to visit - hopefully
they can tomorrow.. Keep up
the good work you three - look
forward to the next update.
love [Footy xxx] |

Dear Tim, You and the lads
have done amazingly well. Well
done. I liked the photo of the
seal titled 'Seal or Tim in
disguise', You probably make
about the same amount of
noise!!! Amber will be
extremely jealous of you seeing
penguins, she loves them.
Graeme and I have just come
back from 4 days in Iceland. It
was wonderful. We saw the
Northern lights, sat in the
Blue lagoon, put white
rejuvinating mud on our faces,
walked in the snow and ate
deliciously. Graeme was upset
we never managed to eat puffin,
which we are told taste fishy
due to the amount of fish they
eat. Sorry shouldn't be telling
you about good food whilst you
are probably on army packet
stuff. Do you fish? What's
penguin like? It must be
terribly hard work rowing all
day. I do not envy you .But
keep rowing and come back
safely. It's great being able
to see what you are up to as
well as what Footie and the
kids are doing when going on
the website. Keep well, love
[Liesje & Graeme]

Guv'nor, Richie and Chris, Hope
you're still able to fit in those
kayaks after all the lovely
hospitality! Guess where I'm going
this weekend? 6 Nations starts and
we're going to Twickenham to catch
England v Italy (tactical move, we
stand more chance of beating this
lot!) I'll chant a few rude songs
and put away a few guinesses on
your behalf! Sorry you won't be
around for a post-match de-brief -
we can catch the second half of the
tournament when you get yourselves
back here! Glad to hear you're all
keeping warm and well, the snow
here has been amazing, wouldn't
mind warm toes tho...! ho ho! Just
remember Da - PLF and all will be
well through those piddly tidal
races! Lots of love [Amy (Timmy's

Hi Tim, Richy and
Chris Great going guys, I was
wondering why you needed food
drops when you are eating the
locals out of house and home.
Just got back from sking trip
with IT, Nark, Sweets, Dang,
Fred, Aida, etc. managed to
keep up, usual supervision from
the rear. Nark wants to swap
wowing stories with you and is
marvelling how your map trace
does not keep going round in
circles like theirs did.
Keeping away from the snowy
weather for a bit longer,
should be back visiting down
your way in March. Good luck
for the final leg - and it
appears its still 'come on the
big fella'!!!! [Webbie]

Delighted to see that you
are making such good progress -
we are sat at your computer
having looked at all the photos
-every week David at choir asks

home Tim! We look forward to
your safe return and hearing
all about your trip. Lots of

Hello Richie, Hope your good
and enjoying your mamouth trip!
Good work on the fishing. We've
had loads of snow and are
currently stuck in little
Churchinford. The village shop
has run out of milk, tea and
biscuits- things are not
looking good...you thought you
had things tough! We've had
7"-9" and due more tonight.
Most wedding things are now
organised- have bought Phil,
Dad's and Ed's tie- Dad is
gonna love it- lilac paisley-
hehe! Well, keep going, your
all doing a fab job...take care

Dear Richy and lads, Evie's
first birthday and we couldn't
get there as we were snowed in,
A38 impassable, 150 people
rescued from Haldon Hill to
sleep at the race course. Our
road a nightmare, as like many
small roads, it isn't gritted.
Similar stories all over the
country. Had a great walk up to
the village the other
night-snow makes everything
really bright, was great fun.
Looks as tho' you have really
pushed on with the journey,
well done. Just heard today
that Hannah had a boy, Finlay,
on Tuesday, but not a good
birth. No doubt we shall hear
all the gory details when we
see her parents in 2
weeks-Martin Symonds is talking
to their Rotary club about his
intended bike ride along
Hadrian's Wall.

Dear Uncle Richie,Today I
got a good behaviour letter
from my haed teacher Mr Bawley.
He said I was consistanly doing
my best in class, being a kind
person and asking if I can help
people! I also got my pen
licence, so now I don't have to
write in pencil any more.
Tomorrow I am going swimming,
my best stroke is butterfly.
The snow has all gone now from
Portsmouth, but Grandma and
Aunty Katherine have loads of
snow! Thanks for the money at
christmas. Love

Hi Guys, making good
progress according to the map
looks, an impressive feet looks
like you have broken the back
of it. Hope you enjoyed your
time with Martin i bet the rest
was appreciated (and beer).
Smylies Channel sounds ominous,
paddle fast don't look behind
you etc. Claire and I are
thinking of you and wish you
luck with the weather, unlike
us who were snowed in earlier
in the week. take it easy for
now boys and look forward to
your next update. PS. by the
way good news back here, Claire
is expecting twins on July,

Hi Guys, I
read your diary and look at the
photo’s with great enthusiasm,
what a great adventure!!! Your
progress looks incredible, just
amazing how far round you are
now. So keep paddling hard and
good luck. I’m not sure what I
miss the most – the adventure
or the FOOD! What a
lovely bunch of people you have
supporting you – please say Hi
from a ‘redundant butler’. Tim,
can you eat as much as me yet –
Surely not!!! You’ve probably
gathered from earlier messages
– we’ve had a bit of snow.
Unfortunately I was part way
through a response motor cycle
course, which has now been
postponed. However, Tim, I know
you will understand this – the
job has just paid me to ride
large motor cycles, up &
down the country, at high speed
all week – well life is tough
but someone has to do it
!!! Well, I hope life is
good for all of you, I’m sure
it is and as Amy has said –
PLF!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Simon
Middleton]

Hey Tim, Kev here from snowy
St.C. Took dog to Camelford
yesterday and did some mountain
drills on Bodmin Moor, trained him
to dig me out of drifts!
Steadily growing in climbing kit
(harness, shoes, quick draws, chalk
bag, nutter) so hurry up n paddle
your last leg! Just kidding, enjoy
it. Very envious when looking at
those pics. Take care (but
not too much!) [Bao Spriggs] |

Hey Tim. . well I
thought it was a crazy plan but
so glad to see you stuck at it,
looks like quite the adventure
you lot are having over there.
All the best for the rest of
the trip, I'm keeping track of
you so don't do anything I
wouldn't do. The photo's look
amazing, keep up the good work
lads, looking forward to
hearing about the rest of it.
Take care and enjoy yourselves,

Hello Lads.
Glad to see your making good
progress and I hope things
remain that way for the last
leg of your adventure. I have
been looking through your
photos and the sea, the
coastline and the wildlife all
look amazing (although the one
of you lot clad only in your
thermals did'nt!). Just got
back from an epic week
snowboarding in the French
alps, fresh powder pretty much
every day and even some
sunshine. As you probably
gathered we have had a
smattering of snow in the South
of England too, I even managed
to get some fresh tracks on the
South Downs! Who needs a
chairlift when you have a
Sussex Police Landrover.
Anyway, once again good luck
for the final leg lads, I'm
going to sit back on the sofa
and nurse the sprained ankle I
have recently sustained in a
soup buying accident. [Geoff

Hello
hairy men - sound like you are
zipping along now bet you almost
don't want it to finish. All
is well here - no more snow just
rain rain and more rain.
Hamish has his first performance
today - well two actually - to
primary schools this morning and
the paying public tonight and the
next two nights. Then
its party after the show on Friday
and up early on Saturday morning to
go skiing. He is getting very
excited about the skiing. Had
car MOTd last week which it passed
but front suspension spring (thing)
had to be replaced so had that done
yesterday. Now have to get
old car mended as it is overheating
even in the recent snow - Richard
thinks it might be
thermostat. As soon as its
done we can insure Phoebe on
it. Matt came round last
night - we are having Ludo but they
will pay to have him done first sso
we'll get him in about two weeks
just as you come home
Tim! On that note must
away to work - its 8.20 and I have
to be there for 8.30 lots of
love [Footy] |

Hi Ho Yer
All,
Great phots
and great commentary -
well done you guys.
For a wilderness
adventure it all
appears to be food,
food and more food and
what's more provided
and cooked by other
people!! The beards
are comming on -
does this also mean
you have joined the
ranks of the great
unwashed or do carry
saltwater soap. Good
luck on the last leg.
Keep a good lookout
behind because just
when you thought it
was all calm the
swells may just come
up and bite you.

Hi Dad,
I’ve been following that
red line closely, can’t believe
it’s so long (she cried). The
photos are great, you’re
looking decidedly gaunt,
actually that’s a lie, but like
you say there are significantly
less chins than there were at
Christmas. Don’t know if anyone
has mentioned it to you guys
yet-but it snowed?! Had a
lovely Monday off work in the
pub and out to lunch with Tessa
and Shakira and of course the
obligatory snow ball fight. I
saw a woman ski-ing down
Croydon high street which was
definitely a first. Went to
Reading on the weekend to see
Nori and Jamie, they were very
impressed with what you were
doing, we had a good night out,
followed by the breakfast of
justice™ followed by the rugby,
all in all it was a good day.
Back at work now, obviously
working hard, also planning my
birthday, in less than a month
your first born will be a
quarter of a century-how old
does that make you feel?!
Anyway, I think you’re all
doing amazingly well, not long
to go now, and good luck for
the last bit. Lots of love Old
Bean. Ps Paul says his beard is
longer than yours so there.

Hello
long haired weather beaten
person. Here is a valentine
heart for you richy xxx I
hope you are well and your mind is
in good spirits – looks like you
are doing lots of reading, I guess
you guys may be running out of
things to talk about between
you?! (by the way, with all
that reading you might be doing,
that means no reading your book
when you’re back at home, I’m going
to make you tell me lots of stories
instead!) I’m going to London
this weekend to stay with Richy
Dunn, and we’re going to see Vicki
and their new baby girl (name
unknown). Work is going OK –
just plodding along, no dramas
which is nice! The sun is out
today and it is glorious. I
have booked off the 25th
to come and fetch you, you’ll have
to tell me where to go. Can’t
wait for you to come back my sweet,
it’s boring without you! [Sue

Tim,
We
were delighted to see
your progress on the
map, it seems to us you
are going really
well.
We
had a bit of a party in
celebration here today.
Your Footie came up
from Cornwall bringing
a fabulous lemon
drizzle cake for
afters. Jill and Paul
came down from Exeter
bringing bread and
cheese. Wendy made a
salad. Hope talking
about food doesn't make
you all
hungry!
Wendy's
hoping to extend her
stay here for another
week to catch you on
your return & to
take me up to when I'm
allowed to drive
time.

Sending this message at 5 pm on
Sunday - still home alone although
expexting Phoebe home soon.
The Greenies and LCB's are coming
round to eat - salmon and roast
potatoes etc - Linda and Nicola
providing the puds. Its in
honour of Matthew who is setting
off imminently on his European
cycling trip. Visited my parents
today for a soup lunch then Mum and
I visited a garden open under the
National Gardens Scheme - lots of
snowdrops witch hazel and sweet
smelling Daphnes. Have
managed a bit of gardening today
and a massive tidy up inside -
house looks great. Vivienne
and friends are down in Padstow for
the week so we are going for a walk
tomorrow with picnic lunch
hopefully. The weather is
actually dry and reasonably warm at
the moment - 10 degrees
today. Hamish should be at
his destination by now - he should
have a fantastic week - he was so
excited about it in Hamish's
understated way. Amy sent me
a Valentine card in case you didn't
isn't she great. Phoebe and I are
off to stay with her this weekend
and are staying with Isobelle
Milena and Ophelia the night before
so much looking forward to all
that. Phoebe and I are having
a girls trip to the hairdresser on
Wednesday so we will look the part
too. Had lunch with you ma
and pa and Wendy Jill and Paul
yesterday - Dad looking much better
though still feeling tired -
understandably. Wendy has
extended her trip by a week as long
as she can change her flight so you
should see her - I have invited
them here the weekend after you
return. Hope you three are
still having fun - there's light at
the end of the tunnel
presumably. lots of love

Hi Richy,
As usual it is drama here,
with more water sagas.When
we found water dripping
through the kitchen ceiling
and realised it was not
from your Dad slopping
water out of his bath,
investigations began.
Discovered that water was
coming from the roof tank
and going down the wall of
the bathroom, behind the
tiles, and thus into
kitchen. In an attempt to
sort this out, you have to
picture Dad on his hands
and knees up in the roof,
checking for water, with me
being a little helper Elf,
putting foot on wobbly
board, pinching your Dad's
big toe between it and
another board,
agony!-yelling, and as I
moved, he managed to put
his arm through the soggy
plaster board. Result, a
very unpretty ceiling in
the bathroom, with all the
attendant mess. He has now
mended the water leak
and we are drying out, but
loads of repairs needed.
What a mess.
Off to Gibsons tomorrow, on
our way to pick up Martin
Symonds who is speaking to
Farnham Rotary (staying
with Tricia and Michael)
about his planned Boma ride
along Hadrian's wall.
Martin has been in hospital
with pneumonia, but once
again had defied the odds
and made a full recovery.
He is so gutsy. Wednesday
is Lily's birthday, should
be back for
that.
Good luck to you all for
the last 'push'. luv Mum

Hi Tim,
Hope things are going well - I hear
you are over half way round which
must be a relief! Had a
family lunch with M&D, Wendy
& Deb on Saturday, it was great
to see Dad who is improving by the
day. Spring is in the air here and
days are getting lighter at last.
You will be getting back at the
right time! All the best Tim, hope
the last section goes well, we are
all proud of your efforts. See you

"Nearly there then". Told Ken
(just getting out & about after
his hay bail accident) in Talskiddy
about your jolly, he asked if you
had paddled out there to get to the
start ? Keeping watch on your
progress back to Stanley and
monitoring diary, some of the sea
actually looks a bit choppy, you
look pretty stable and low in
water, must be the fosters. Take
care you three & see you soon.

What
happened to the dodgy weather then
guys? Good to see you have pushed
even further on towards home today.
No unnecessary risks now lads!! Not
that you would. As you know, in
Rome with Jill, but still at the
keyboard. I wouldn't miss this for
anything!! Everyone is getting very
excited about the finish, so I
guess that includes you. Best of
everything, and what a shame I
won't be there to pipe you into
Stanley. You must be the luckiest
guys I know of! [Colin -

Hi Ho Yer
All,
Great paddle
- well done - I guess one
of you had to to have a few
kayak scars or we would not
believe it was a real
adventure. Are you sure the
other two were not trying
to tell you something Tim
when you split! Well
done again and look forward
to the stories on your
return. [Sandy]

Hi
Richy,
What a
fantastic achievement,
it will become a bit
of a bond between the
3 of you for ever. We
have loved reading all
the diaries and
messages-what do we do
now? find our
entertainment
elsewhere? luv, Mum

Wow,
congratulations to you
all. You have done a
fab job and it sounds
like it was loads of
fun. I am sure you will
have many tales to tell
when you return. It has
gone very quickly (for
us - maybe not for
you!!) and I cannot
believe what you have
accomplished in the
last 6 weeks. You will
be returning just as
the weather has started
to warm up - I think
all of the snow has
just about melted. Bye
for now and see you
soon when you return.

Tim Chris and Richie
- well done you three - we are
very proud of you all - Phoebe
and I are typing this in Diss
stayingwith Isabelle milena and
Ophelia - its great to see them
again and here they are
.....
Helo Tim! It is the
mad french woman you thought
you left behind... The pictures
looked fab but I am happy I did
do it because camping is not my
thing. Anyway very happy to see
Footy and your lovely Phoebe..
it is like the old times. By
the way, beard? no good. We do
not like it, sorry. Grosses
bises et a bientot.
Well well well, it's
your favourite of the three
frenchies. (that would be
ophelia if you forgot) :D I
hope you're having a wonderful
time. I hear you're doing this
for charity... can't say i
would be camping in the
freezing cold like you but we
all know deep down that this is
for your enjoyment as well as
the charity haha. Anyway I best
leave you and get back to your
lovely family as we're having a
top notch time. Just like the
old days. Byee! Stay safe. xx
Ophelia.
Hi Tim !! It's
Milena ... definately your
favourite frenchy in particular
my climbing ... dont know if
you remember our times at
Harrisons :) Well done for the
charity kayak i'm sure you
enjoyed almost all of it even
the ration packs (phoebe told
me about that) It's a shame you
couldn't be here to come visit
us as well but hey that means
you'll all have to come back
and stay longer .. yeah? Hope
you're ok ... lots of love
Milena xx

In the
words of Victor: "I can't believe
it" !! Here we were thinking
we'd send a "you're nearly there"
message this weekend and we look at
the website and see you've
finished! What an amazing
feat, congratulations doesn't seem
to do it justice, so jolly good
show instead! It's going to
be very dull not following your
antics online and even more so not
reading all the other messages -
particularly from the Carter family
- it's like the old days when you
were here in Wallington and I used
to pop down the road to catch up on
news!! Anyway, we're looking
forward to an invite to one of your
(no doubt) many welcome home
parties. Deb's probably
finished the barn by now so you can
have it in there!!! All the
best to you, Ritchie & Chris.

Well done fellas. Can't wait
to catch up for beer and war
stories!! [Geoff Hinton]

Tim,
Richie, Chris - I’ve just got
back from Hendon Driving School
(Tim can explain), logged on
and read the news. Now it truly
is a great day. Fantastic news
chaps – congratulations, well
done, brilliant – don’t really
know what to say!!!
Great effort. Tim,
Richie…….I’ll look forward to
hearing all about it soon and
hopefully go kayaking together
somewhere a little more local.
Chris……….I’ll look forward to
meeting you one day –
hopefully. Enjoy Stanley and
the time you have left……..
PS…….Tim I did manage to keep
it upright and now one of the
Mets finest motorcyclists. You
won’t believe it though – some
wag has decorated my locker
with green ‘L’ plates. [Simon
Middleton]
